More than ever before registered nurses are taking the lead when it comes to providing quality health care.  Hospitals, doctors and patients alike are relying more and more on these highly qualified professionals to deliver high quality health care at a reasonable cost.

This is good news for patients, and it can be excellent news for job seekers as well.  The salaries paid to registered nurses can be quite high, and even entry level nurses can often make an excellent salary.  The combination of high pay and excellent job satisfaction has led many people to consider a career in nursing, and many licensed practical nurses and nursing assistants to consider furthering their education.

It is important for those considering a career as a registered nurse to take stock of their own strengths, and to evaluate how those strengths can translate into a career in health care.  A registered nurse must be capable of good planning, and he or she must be able to quickly and accurately evaluate a number of factors in order to deliver top quality care to their patients.  Registered nurses must also be capable of working well with a number of different people, including doctors, hospital administrators, orderlies and of course patients.

Of course not all registered nurses work in hospitals, and there are many employment opportunities for these health care professionals, including some you may not have thought of.  Registered nurses are often employed in home health care settings, in administrative roles, and as instructors for other nurses.  Many insurance companies also employ registered nurses to review insurance claims for completeness and accuracy.

Colleges and universities around the country and around the world offer a wide verities of educational tracks designed to allow people of all ages to pursue their goal of a lucrative and rewarding health care career.  Many colleges and universities also offer working people a number of educational alternatives that allow students to earn their degree in nursing without sacrificing their full time job.

No matter what the educational track, registered nurses will need to show strong competency as they work their way through courses in chemistry, biology, anatomy and other essential subjects.  The rigorous training and educational requirements for registered nurses help to ensure that those employed as nurses have the knowledge and expertise needed to provide the finest in patient care.
